Love of Gujarati language

After Chitralekha did a story on us (GujaratiLexicon and Utkarsh, Chitralekha site requires special font download to view the site in Gujarati); we have been getting lot of inquiries. Comments have ranged from thrilled Gujarati’s, to upset people who couldn’t get the free CDs to people who put the CD in a VCD player.

Then there is another set of people. People who’ve been working on the language for years and are happy to see this happening. Ratilal Chandaria was one such person, who came down to meet us specially six months ago. That meeting started a new journey for Utkarsh. We shook hands with GujaratiLexicon and now taking full care of it.

This time too, we are meeting many such people. Upendra Dave from London was impressed and wants to do something in the areas of learning Gujarati with electronic media. Mayank Thakkar came from Mahuva and would like us to do something in Education. And then there are many other people that either Ashok or Kartik met.

It’s an honor to meet people who have given their life to the language. Gives us energy to keep pushing this endeavor.

There is lot more that’s coming on Utkarsh now!

  1. A friend of mine here in US wants to give a “learn Gujarati” CD or program to his son. Any idea if there is a software or something similar that can be bought? Thanks in advance.

You have a very informative blog. Loved the Blog Title especially.

  2. Upendra Dave along with his brother Jagdish Dave and others, has done a lot of work in Gujarati Education. They don’t have a software about learning Gujarati yet, but a lot of course material etc is prepared. Let me know if you need his contact details.

  3. Hi Nirav,

Although, I read, write, speak Gujarati fluently, I need to go back to the basics. Starting from Barakhadi, Vyakaran (Sandhi, Samas, Alankar), JodaNi

If you have studied in Gujarati medium school, you might remember
Subhashit and very good poems by our greats poets (Akho, Mirabai)
and writers (Father Vallace, BK Thakore, Karsandas Manek)

I would like to collect all the books that I studied in school
Do you know of anyone, who can provide help to me in this regard?

Can you get me connected with Prof. Jagdish Dave?
Do you know of anyone who might have school time Gujarati books OR any Gujarati medium school students OR publishers (N D Mehta is what I remember)?

Please reply to me at my given email address

    Thanks so much

  4. I recommend Dr. Jagdish Dave’s “Colloquial Gujarati” published by Routledge and available from Amazon.com

If there is a programmer or someone with good knowledge, we have material redy for learning Gujarati. If an interactive site is made available so that everyone can use it, I’d like to offer proven material so that it can be made into an interactive learning site. Any offers?

    Upendra

  5. i dont know why any body didnt turn to this offer.

If your material is not yet published i would like to do it.

    Thanks
    Avani Gadhai

  6. Does anyone have a English to Gujarati, medical glossary, I should be grateful if anyone can oblige. Please send to the above email address.. Thanks in advance.

    Dhansukh.

  7. Now that almost a year has passed since the last entry, is there anything new someone could recommend? I have EUROTALK Learn Gujarati. They only have 1 level and have nothing new coming. I purchased Colloquial Gujarati (it would be nicer on CD but I will use). Ideally, I would love software that taught reading, writing, and pronunciation. And ideas?

    Thanks,
    Joe
