Hi Nirav, i saw this on planet.foss.in, and I just wanted to mention a few things I thought were wrong:

1) part about don’t want to disclose gender seems like a joke. Plus it will screw up stats of how many men/women attended.

2) If you are in say ‘Chennai’, then your country obv cannot be Australia

3) Country itself seems to imply that we are expecting delagates only from 5 countries

4) Why are Last organisation and last school / university really important? Current organisation/university seems to be sufficient IMO

Hi Tejas,

Good points!

1. Ok, so let’s take the joke out! :)

2. The options are not ordered. I think we can solve this by preselecting India as the country, and allowing to change that later. I don’t think we will really be adding too much of restriction on selecting a country here. Since Australia can also have a city named Chennai! They have a place called Bombay that I remember…

3. Not really! The reason to give a shorter drop down in the country is to make it fast to locate the most probably places. We don’t want users scrolling through a list of 250 countries. They can always enter it if they don’t find their country in the list. This same reasoning is used for the city drop down too.

4. Would you not like to meet people from your last organization at the conference? How exciting would it be to find a school / college friend at the event? These fields simply allow us to establish more linkages between two delegates.

There is no place named Bombay in India.

Browser dropdowns have this feature where you can enter the first letter and it will jump to an entry beginning with that letter.

Some people would rather not disclose organisational affiliations.

Gender would matter for gender specific T shirts/etc, but otherwise we don’t care.

1. I was referring to Bombay city in countries other than India. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bombay_%28disambiguation%29

2. Ours is not exactly going to be a browser drop down. If you have some stats on the countries people come from, then we can include those countries in the list. Otherwise I don’t see a point of showing the list of all countries for this app.

3. Good point. We can make it optional.

4. Yes.
